Michelle E. Seligson, Ed.M., is a researcher, author, and consultant in child care policy and practice, who founded and directed for 21 years the National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) at Wellesley College Center for Research on Women. Since it began in 1979, this institute has forecast the emergence of important issues in the fields of after-school child care and out-ofschool time, and has driven improvements in both policy and practice. Seligson is currently associate director at the Center for Research on Women at Wellesley College. Also, she is directing a new project called “Building Relational Practices in Out-of-School Environments.”
